Superman & Lois "The Eradicator"

Spoiler

Aaah! That ending! Aaah!

Interestingly for me, the parts of the episode I responded to best were the human drama. I'm not saying this show sucks at superheroics or anything. But the human drama was especially strong this week, and the superheroics didn't start until about halfway through.

I love that Jordan tells Clark he can't have it both ways. Either Edge is a threat or he isn't. And Clark is annoyed and bothered that he's right. What a great family dynamic.

Similarly, I adored Sam throwing the fact that he can do nothing right by Lois, even when he does what she wants. He's trying to protect the family. Her acting like this is typical b.s. from her father is totally unfair. It might well be b.s.. But it's atypical, NEW b.s..

So I'm betting Jonathan's new girlfriend's father is a Flash rogue. That could make an interesting episode next year.

I was annoyed at John Henry Irons flying off the handle at Jonathan's innocent admiring comment of the suit. First of all, there was nothing wrong with what Jonathan said. And if there were, Irons is the adult. He should not be flying off the handle like that and giving the kid a guilt trip he does not deserve. Him treating a kid like that is especially troubling because he actually has no authority over him. He's not his parent and he's creepily speaking to him almost like a peer. This guy acting like Comic Book Guy does not make him remotely emotionally healthy.

I love the kids watching the crisis on TV. The verdict: Lois Lane is awesome! She truly is. That got roars of approval in all the right places.

I loved Irons saving Lois with the hammer. Not again. Not on his watch.

Learning Kyle stuck up for an unpopular black female coworker makes me like him a little.

I like that Sarah is genuinely shocked and impressed how together both Jonathan and Jordan are during a crisis.

Great episode! And the ending slayed me! 4 1/2 stars.

Superman & Lois "Last Sons Of Krypton"

Spoiler

The episode was solid for about three quarters of the way through. And as it was going I said to myself, "Because the show is already great, I will accept a solid finale. It doesn't need to be earth-shattering or amazing for me to like it." And then the scene with Lois and Jordan happened, and the finale was amazing anyways. It didn't need to be. But the show refused to let me down.

Season 2 frightens the hell out of me. I could not stand a Berlanti sophomore slump for this specific show. I love it too much.

Superman's interview with Chrissy was great, and shows why the dude makes great copy. He tells her (correctly, I might add) that he can't control if the situation makes people fear Kryptonians, and even him. But he says it was Smallville that saved themselves, and that they'll come out of this stronger than ever. What a great dude. THAT'S why he's Superman. The powers are secondary to that.

Season 2 scares me so much that I almost wish the show had been canceled. But that specific cliffhanger is so freaking messy I am still dying to see how it plays out.

And yeah, that's a messy-ass ending. I understand entirely why John wanted to leave, but Nat showing up means they are gonna have to stick around for awhile if only to straighten things out. It is totally and subversively this show that the cliffhanger doesn't involved DC Comics lore, or Season 2 supervillain set-up. It returns to the family dynamic. Because that's the actual important thing in the series.

I freaking love this show. Berlanti BETTER take care of it next year. I am not kidding. I will be livid if he doesn't. 4 1/2 stars.
