Some beautifully shot images in that teaser but, wow, nothing exciting at all...  Then there is Hawkman's costume... green pants with red boots isn't that difficult...

My friend told me to stop quoting the Monkees. I thought she was joking. But then I saw her face.

Holy fucking God. I thought I couldn't hate DC more than I already do.

They also apparently think Leslie Grace should consent to being Batgirl again in a different project. They have lost their damn minds.

I don't know the exact details, yet, but I've seen the headlines everywhere...  The DC Cinematic Universe is now a thing and it's "Kevin Fiege" is James Gunn.

Posted this on another forum:

I am not bowled over by this news. While Suicide Squad was technically a good movie, it was wrong for a DC movie and a failure for that reason. Yeah, the HBO Max simultaneous release hurt it but I think it would have bombed anyways, with or without Covid. I think that's the reason I resent the news. If Suicide Squad had been a success that would be one thing, but it goes back to me saying that at DC you can only fall upwards, no matter how badly you do.

Somebody also pointed out that Gunn said he wasn't too interested in Superman which is another reason I think he's wrong to head DC.

James Gunn has stepped forward and posted the launch of the new DCEU on all of his social media.  It is being heavily reported on in most outlets so I won't bother putting any specific links here.

MY thoughts (take em or leave em, this is just how I see things)

* Elseworlds branding is a thing. Matt Reeves' Batman, Joker, and Teen Titans Go! are specifically named as "Elseworld" releases. Clearly they bring in enough money not to be messed with at this time. This is fine with me so long as it is controlled and doesn't oversaturate the market and take focus away from the "main" DCEU. At the same time, this potentially makes it that much more difficult for projects like JLU to happen for fear it will detract from the main story so I'm tentatively excited about this.

* TV, Movies, and Animation are now unified. Actors will transfer from one medium to another helping to maintain continuity of character. We've been asking for this for a long time, and Marvel has shown how it can be done successfully so this is a plus all the way around.

* We aren't scrapping everything, but we still might.  My response here is "pick a lane". I get that Shazam!, Aquaman, and Flash are much too far along to scrap (Let's just ignore Batgirl for now) and that they may possibly, potentially, perhaps be okay to continue into the new, streamlined and unified DCEU but I'd much rather start fresh and let these end the old before starting the new.  It starts us on a shaky foot. But, if Flash truly is the reset button, it won't be an issue I guess.  We'll see. Blue Beetle could stand well on its own and I'm excited for it so this may be the exception to everything I just said.

* What was announced: We launch with "Gods and Monsters" as our phase 1. Big themes, and I'm sure it is a hint at what's to come for the ultimate Big Bad, but I like that we aren't moving toward a specific comic storyline right off the launch.

Creature Commandos. This is a hell of a concept to launch the multiverse with. Monsters going to war is an easy sell, Monsters in the Army not so much. At least this will put Frankenstein into the mix sooner rather than later.

Waller. More Viola Davis is a good thing. But again, either start fresh or continue on. We'll see what happens.

Lanterns. We've known this is coming and I'm still excited for it.

Superman: Legacy. Finally, one of the main Trinity. But what story are we telling here? The title makes me think Superman is already established and known in the DCU. However, Gunn has already stated this will be an earlier era in Kal-el's life. What's the "legacy" then? Yes, we have seen a potential version of Superman in Brightburn, but I don't imagine the DCU's Superman will get anywhere close to that dark as that was the major argument against Snyder's take on the character and part of the reason to start over (yes, there were many other reasons, but the dark tone was always the major one).

Themyscira. Gunn compared this to Westeros. I've heard other places compare it to True Detectives. Not sure what to expect from this except that this is how we get Wonder Woman.

Brave & the Bold. Batman! and Robin! Damien Wayne Robin ... what does this mean for DC history? Are we skipping Dick, Jason, and Tim? Cited as drawing heavily from Grant Morrison's run, this should give us an on-screen Batman we haven't seen before and ample room to expand the DCU in short order. This is one of the riskier announcements in my opinion.

Booster Gold. YES! This is absolutely a character I want in Gunn's hands. Should be a ton of fun to see how he's handled and presented as an alternative perspective on the DCU. Could very easily become the "everyman" character that carries the audience into bigger stories

Supergirl. Calling this a "major Sci Fi epic" adapting Tom King's recent impressive run as source material, this is the riskiest announced project. It won't be "Super- " that links nicely with Kal-El or the main DCU. That could be a plus. Give us more diversity in character attitudes and perspective from launch, but at the same time, Tom King's run was so specifically his that it didn't work for all readers and is widely ignored but the larger DCU stories.

Swamp Thing. Another YES for me. Gives us magic, a darker perspective, and super heroics that are inherently more humanized and less punchy-punchy. I've already seen people shouting for Guillermo Del Toro being brought in to direct and that would be fantastic, but I'm not sure it's the best fit for a continuity focused universe.  With this being the last project in the initial line-up (if this line-up is the proposed release schedule), it gives us plenty of time to line this up and prep the right fit for the project.

* whatever else I'm forgetting. All in all, I'm looking forward to what Gunn and Saffron have announced. I wasn't a fan of the Snyder-verse but I really loved Gal as Wonder Woman and Momoa's Aquaman surprised me. I am glad we finally have a creative director for the future of the franchises and I'm also glad they are willing to take some risks and not give us more of what we've already seen. Bring it on I say. I'm here for it but I'm here for it regardless and will most likely sit quietly in the back from here on out. I'll share a thought or two when I feel impelled but I'm not becoming one of those innumerable loud voices shouting into the ether about how everyone destroys everything I love unless it is exactly what I want without change.

Just give me some good movies.  I was a fan of the Snyder stuff, but I know that era is dead.  So just give me some more good stuff.

I don't know how much to believe it but considering how much stuff WB/Discovery has fractured off but I keep seeing headlines that Netflix has bought the rights to continue the Snyderverse while WB does theatrical stuff.  It sounds crazy but it's Hollywood...

@jim_abell I'd have to think the rights to that would be insanely expensive...and on top of that...none of those actors are getting younger.

While I can dream about "What might have been".......Man of Steel, BvS (Ultimate Cut) and the Snyder JL Cut made a solid trilogy.  And they look great in my basement.
