Alien: Covenant
The ending was a total downer, but be real: If David didn't impersonate Walter even ONCE, the movie wasn't doing the identical brothers premise justice. Still, what a dark ending.
Unanswered question: HOW did Daniels figure out it was David right before she went under? That was unclear to me.
You think those corporations during Ripley's time are nuts for believing a species as gross and violent as Xenomorphs are evolutionary perfection, but it's not just a human delusion at all. Which is really disturbing and depressing. And it makes you wonder who exactly serves who when it comes to man and robots.
John Denver is still around in the 22nd Century? We sure we WANT humanity to survive that long now?
Walter mentions that David made people nervous and that's exactly right. That was his entire problem in Prometheus.
This was a little much for me. 2 1/2 stars.
Deleted And Extended Scenes:
The interesting scenes to me are the scenes detailing the actual friendship between Daniels and Walter. When David claims he loves her in the movie, it's a bit of a stretch. Had they kept these scenes it would have been credible. Overall: 3 1/2 stars.
Prologue (Extended)
Probably gives too much away about David being evil. Wise to trim it down. 3 stars.
Walter In Greenhouse
Walter has David's face, but Bishop's wry and chill demeanor. 3 1/2 stars.
Oram And Daniels (Extended)
Oram was a legit bad captain in every respect. 2 stars.
Walter Visits Daniels
I love this scene and wish they hadn't cut it. It gives more intimate context to Walter and Daniels' relationship. 4 1/2 stars.
Daniels Bedroom Flashback
Just what cinema needs: More James Franco. I kid, I kid. 3 stars.
Jacob's Funeral (Extended)
Oh, yeah, the notion that Walter loves Daniels is TOTALLY credible. 4 stars.
Ledward's Fall
Very brief scene. Not sure why it was cut. 2 1/2 stars.
Crossing The Plaza (Extended)
Extended Creepy. 3 stars.
Daniels Thanks Walter
SO much stuff between Daniels and Walter was cut and I think it's a shame. What I love about the robots in this franchise is some are good and some are bad. And you aren't sure which they are until after the movie is over! 4 stars.
Rosenthal Prayer
Paring this down probably helped the tension of the scene. A wise cut. 2 stars.
Walter Reports Back
On the one hand, this scene feels almost essential. On the other hand, it tips the movie's reveal about David almost entirely. I'm torn as to whether or not the movie is better for it being gone. But the crew being suspicious of David after Walter's honest and disturbing report of him feels right, whether the scene is in the film or not. 3 1/2 stars.
Stairs To Eggroom (Extended)
The only argument you need that Oram is a bad captain and sucks at his job is that he actually follows David into the spooky cavern alone, without telling anyone else. If he HAD, David might have lost the freaking movie. Pity the Captain was this dumb. And don't get me started about how idiotic it was to stare directly into a Facehugger egg. 3 stars.
Theatrical Trailers
Didn't care for the movie but the trailers are pretty great. Overall: 4 stars.
Theatrical Trailer 1
Mysterious and horrifying Red Band trailer. The choice of song is also intriguing and ups the creep factor. 4 stars.
Theatrical Trailer 2
The second trailer is always more epic. 4 1/2 stars.
