Alien: Resurrection

Honestly, out of the first four original Alien films, this was the worst. And I half-expected to like it. It's not terrible or anything, but I didn't.
Joss Whedon did the screenplay? Any special dazzling dialogue or ironic plot twists? Not really. Pretty boring and straightforward for him.
Ripley also repeatedly making a quip about how she died is not funny. Whedon used to do the same jokes with Buffy on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and because he used to be beloved, nobody bothered giving him the note that those jokes aren't actually funny, and won't magically GET funny by repeating them a million times.
I guess the reason I didn't like it was the sexual stuff with Ripley and the Alien. It's done to be disturbing and horrifying. It's off-putting and gross instead. On-brand for a dude like Whedon not to understand the difference. This is his entire career, actually.
I felt the need to defend Alien3 a little. I don't feel the same need to do that for this film. 2 1/2 stars.
