Cloverfield

It's an interesting premise. Godzilla from the perspective of the millions of innocent civilians he kills. Unfortunately the downer ending hit me so hard because the movie was good enough to get me to care about the characters. Which is probably why I am unhappy about the downer ending. The movie did right by the characters' characterization. But wrong by the characters themselves.

Whatever happened to New York, the fact that the found footage is now with the U.S. military says the U.S. HAS survived in some form. I'll have to check out the sequels to see what that form is, but the ending wasn't entirely hopeless, despite being a downer.

Very effective and interesting movie otherwise. ***.
