Donald Duck In D.I.Y. Duck (Disney+ Short)

This is sort of Disney's version of Looney Tunes Cartoons in trying to capture the TONE of the original shorts. It's more successful than that because Looney Tunes Cartoons relies on humor, and because humor standards are different now, it can't help but be a little outside of that when it tells jokes modern audiences would laugh at. This short has an easier lift because Disney cartoons are never funny, and nobody was ever expecting that. So they didn't have to do any sort of humor evolution that would set it apart from the classics.

All that being said, I am unhappy with the short. What is the freaking point of using archival recordings of Clarence "Ducky" Nash? Donald Duck currently HAS a voice artist: Tony Anselmo. I felt by the end of the run of DuckTales 2017 that show did EXTREMELY wrong by him professionally. And in the first legit new Disney Studios Donald Duck cartoon in who knows how long, the studio screws him over AGAIN!. I am pissed and if I were Anselmo, I'd be furious. Ducky Nash reruns add nothing a fresh voice performance from Anselmo who has spent decades as this character, and who Disney still takes utterly for granted, would give us.

Not happy about that. Now happy about that at all. 2 1/2 stars.
