Evil Dead 2

I have no idea how a project with so many horrible things happening in it can be this much fun. Yet here we are. I'm trying to picture Game Of Thrones as a gasser and I just don't have the imagination to do it. The scene of Ash laughing and going crazy in the cabin is genuinely funny.

This was the reason I checked the franchise out. It's a very funny and clever movie. Ash starts off the movie as normal as the he was in the last one and basically finishes the picture as a badass horror movie icon. I had no idea the ending was going to be a cliffhanger that set up Army Of Darkness! That's excellent.

Roger Ebert loved this movie but he always used the qualifier "Evil Dead TWO" because he hadn't seen the first one.

Speaking of which, I think the biggest problem with the movie is the beginning. It's DAMN confusing. They are doing an abbreviated retelling of the first movie and suggesting Linda and Ash were the only ones at the cabin. They used a different actress for Linda too so it's doubly confusing. What it took me a bit to cotton onto was this movie's beginning acts as a reboot of the franchise rather than a direct sequel. Which is messy, and something I don't like, especially because following the continuity of the first film better would have changed nothing about this one. Apparently Ash had NOT simply creepily found another girlfriend named Linda who he gave the exact same locket to and took her to the exact same cabin. Because honestly, that's where my mind first went, and even I thought that was too nuts. No they are just retelling the first movie in the hopes that nobody else has actually seen it. Which makes little sense to me.

There's another woman caught in the tree sequence, but she isn't raped, so I don't have to puke. How hard was that, Raimi?

I'm looking forward to Army Of Darkness. Assuming that doesn't retcon THIS movie away too! That was SO much fun! ****1/2.
