Harold And The Purple Crayon
Gary as the villain is tough to beat. But he's misguided, not evil, and kind of a dope. Somebody Harold can help out at the end. And kindness and understanding is the real solution.
The movie values imagination and magic, and helping people. And that's a tonic I needed in this current climate. This is not me speaking for what kids need regarding movies. I am not a kid, so I really can't speak for either what they would or even SHOULD like. But it was needed for ME. As a viewer of genre stuff that's just too much. I am glad Harold is out there creating art and imagination, and having fun, and being filled with joy with Moose and Porcupine. I'm too old to believe in imaginary friends. But I believe in being allowed to watch something that purely makes you feel good. And this movie is special because I thought I was alone in valuing that. And I hope if this movie gets a following more films, both aimed at kids and adults, start allowing us to have fun and enjoy the kindness of good people. Again, I didn't even know how badly I needed this in 2024 until I got it.
I love this film. 5 stars.
