Looney Tunes: Back In Action
I don't know about you, but I really liked it. It's not just better than both Space Jams. I enjoyed it more than I do HBO Max's Looney Tunes Cartoons. Far more.
Joe Dante directed this? Absolutely right choice. What I love most about the movie is the amount of Easter Eggs in it. That will make the movie fun to rewatch. When they do an outside shot in Paris there is a reference to Madeline. If you missed it, it's not explained or pointed out. It just exists. Just like the cameos of Kevin McCarthy and the Daleks. If you don't know what the movie is talking about, move along. There will be another inside joke you'll invariably get at any second.
Michael Jordan's cameo was great. They couldn't even bother doing that for Space Jam 2. What a bunch of maroons.
It's a Dante film so both Joe Miller and Robert Picardo appear. Also liked seeing a small role for Ron Perlman.
I love the fact that ACME's Desert Operative was the Coyote because of course it was. Brendan Fraser also does a pretty good Tasmanian Devil, and it was fun to see him play a loathsome version of himself at the end. THAT guy, I can picture as Cliff on Doom Patrol.
The movie is imperfect (which is how I like all my movies). The climax could have been stronger, and I'm wondering what Dante was thinking by hiring Steve Martin and telling him to deliver THAT specific insane and off-putting performance for Mr. Chairman. But man, when I get around to rewatching my DVD I'm going to enjoy seeing what I missed the first time out. ****.
