Prometheus
It really opens up the world and the mythology. Chronicle Of Riddick tried to do the same thing with Pitch Black. But that didn't actually fit. I think this does.
The big questions about why the engineers want to now destroy the species they created (Us) or how and why the Xenomorphs came to be have no easy answers.
Speaking of which, I think David's behavior all throughout the movie was a giant red flag. He was clearly working against everybody. The biggest shock to me about the character is that he didn't wind up going on a killing spree. It would have been on-brand if he had.
I'll say this. I feel like this being a "secret" Alien prequel is unnecessary. I knew going in it was a prequel (one of the films on the Alien set) and it didn't hurt anything. I feel like Ridley Scott teasing that before it hit theaters but refusing to address the rumors felt kind of stupid. There really is no value in it being a "surprise" Alien project if that's what everybody was already expecting.
Another question I have is why technology and spaceships seem far more advanced, as does the human quality of life, BEFORE the expedition. How did this change and downgrade humanity's lot? And why was whatever it was that did that never mentioned in the previous films?
I thought it was pretty great myself. I know it's polarizing among fans, but I dug it. 4 1/2 stars.
