Star Trek Prodigy "Into The Breach: Part I"
The evacuation of Romulus suggests this is set during a period of great upheaval for the Federation. I fear for the Doctor because of the upcoming Synth attack and ban. 4 stars.
Star Trek Prodigy "Into The Breach: Part II"
Good that Robert Beltran and Robert Picardo are series regulars now though. 3 1/2 stars.
Star Trek Prodigy "Who Saves The Saviors"
The kids seemed extra dumb on the mission, which is definitely a weakness on this show.
But that cliffhanger means trouble for EVERYONE. 4 stars.
Star Trek Prodigy "Temporal Mechanics 101"
Super exciting and fun. The show at its best. 5 stars.
Star Trek Prodigy "Observer's Paradox"
Star Trek Prodigy "Imposter's Syndrome"
I also have a knee-jerk dislike for "24 hours earlier" teasers.
It wasn't a bad episode though. 3 1/2 stars.
Star Trek Prodigy "The Fast And The Curious"
The Kazon are NOT a Star Trek species I ever needed to see again, and the racing thing felt like a waste of time. The evil controlling master computer is a classic Star Trek trope, but with so many concepts at once, the episode felt a little unwieldy, and as if it couldn't decide what it wanted to be about.
Zero being damaged is bad because they are clearly their biggest gun. Losing their powers, even if it's only temporary has them working at a real disadvantage.
It was better than the premise should have been, but the premise itself sucked, so only partial credit there. 3 stars.
Star Trek Prodigy "Is There In Beauty No Truth?"
But as interesting a concept as the episode is, I simply don't like Zero's new design. They look creepy now. I hope it isn't permanent. 3 1/2 stars.
Star Trek Prodigy "The Devourer Of All Things: Part I"
The irony of Wesley Crusher's appearance. He was a STRONG suspect for Futureguy back on Enterprise, so I think that's what they were deliberately channeling a couple of episodes ago.
He's still annoying, mostly because of the ego, but his new scatterbrained persona makes him endearing instead of insufferable. Well, okay, not ENTIRELY insufferable.
I do want to point out this show continues to misuse Jellico. I loved that Lower Decks viewed Jellico as a cautionary tale, and basically everything a Starfleet Captain should NOT be. Therefore it's tough to see that asshole bossing Janeway around. He has no business in a position of actual authority in Starfleet after the damage he did in "Chain Of Command". Lower Decks understood that.
I get Ronny Cox is affordable for the show, but they should have picked a different captain / admiral to give Janeway the business. Maybe Shelby would have worked. 4 1/2 stars.
Star Trek: Prodigy "The Devourer Of All Things: Part II"
Wil Wheaton is in the opening credits so what the hell happened to Wesley Crusher?
This is probably Janeway's baddest assed moment ever. She NEVER got to do this on Voyager and it's a damn shame. She is rocking the action hero lines.
Excellent. 5 stars.
Star Trek Prodigy "Last Flight Of The Protostar: Part I"
The episode isn't bad though. 3 1/2 stars.
Star Trek Prodigy "Last Flight Of The Protostar: Part II"
Loved Beverly Crusher's cameo. He hasn't visited her in years? I don't care what she says, he's a bad son. She seems to be trying to keep Jack on the DL here. She seems a little nervous about talking about the last time she saw Picard.
All right. 3 stars.
Star Trek Prodigy "A Tribble Called Quest"
Yes and no. It's a fun episode (although the canon forgot to have the Tribbles squeal in response to the Klingon) but honestly?
If there is one thing the Kurtzman era does NOT get, it's the Tribbles. I don't think it understands their purpose. The Trouble With Tribbles is the best Star Trek episode. Trials and Tribble-ations isn't the best Deep Space Nine episode, but it's Top Five, if not Top Three. What this era doesn't understand is you ONLY save Tribbles for truly special occasions. They do not work right in "regular" episodes. If it's not one of the greatest episode in the show using them's history, they are being used incorrectly.
It's a solid episode. But it's Tribbles. Anything less than the best episode ever is unacceptable. 3 stars.
Star Trek Prodigy "Cracked Mirror"
This broke the 24th Century canon of the Mirror Universe. On Deep Space Nine, the Terran Empire was overthrown and humans became rebels against the Klingons, Bajorans, and Cardassians. They won their freedom in the last Mirror Universe DS9 episode "The Emperor's New Cloak", but if you are telling me the Terran Empire reformed, just as dastardly as it used to be in just a few short years, not only is that hard to believe. It's a little disappointing too.
Maybe this isn't the OFFICIAL Mirror Universe, and is merely a tangential Universe near it. They mentioned the adventure Worf went into in "Parallels". There being multiple versions of the Mirror Universe out there fits that specific premise.
But honestly, I think they actually got the canon wrong here. I can rationalize it all I want, I think they goofed. 2 stars.
Star Trek Prodigy "Ascension: Part I"
That ending means I am NOT impressed with Wesley Crusher. 4 1/2 stars.
Star Trek Prodigy "Ascension: Part II"
Jellico is absolutely useless.
It's about time we see some fighter ships in Star Trek. I get it's a show about peace and exploration but Starfleet would have them for when they were necessary.
One of the cadets appears to be Lurien, same species as Morn from Deep Space Nine. That might be why we never hear him speak.
Solid. 4 stars.
Star Trek Prodigy "Brink"
Exciting episode. 4 stars.
Star Trek Prodigy "Touch Of Grey"
Star Trek Prodigy "Ouroboros: Part I"
Still, what wrap-up we got for Solum WAS satisfying.
I feel Hologram Janeway's anger and pain over potentially losing her memories. .
Gwynndala is a badass and a Warrior Goddess.
It's funny Murf is the group's best fighting gun. There's a reason he's security.
I was wondering why they needed to bring the Protostar into the wormhole to begin with. And it turns out that of course they didn't. They were overthinking it. Great twist.
Pretty awesome. 4 1/2 stars.
Star Trek Prodigy "Ouroboros: Part II"
The show is leaning heavily into Star Trek: Picard's timeline, which is super cool. The attack on Utopia Planitia was the defining moment of that show and it's good it happened here (even though it's a kids show). I am also relieved that the theory that both the Doctor and Hologram Janeway would be in danger of being deactivated turned out to be groundless. If there IS a third season (and if there isn't, that's a crime against fandom) that could still happen, but that doesn't appear to be the direction the show is leaning into.
I love Wesley describing their future as wonderful and horrible. Well, they've got the horrible part down. Time to make with the wonderful.
Honestly, I think Jellico is the worst thing to happen to Starfleet in the late 24th Century. Its decline during this time period is almost entirely due to him. Who were the geniuses that made this asshole an Admiral? He's ruining everything that makes Starfleet Starfleet.
I am glad Wesley went home to Beverly even if only briefly. Also glad he met Jack. For a guy steeped in all possible futures he seems surprised he exists. Wait till he learns who the father is.
I love that Dal himself was the one who left the comm behind. Talk about a perfect cycle.
It was an amazing finale, but I have to say if Netflix cancels this show I'll be super pissed. Paramount+ was already crazy to let it go. It's awesome. 5 stars.
