Tomorrowland

Spoiler

This is one of the best films I've seen in the past couple of years. Truthfully, the climax and ending could be punchier, but the thing I like is that it's a Disney movie for little kids, that because it's made by Brad Bird, asks The Big Questions.

And you like Casey right off the bat for being the only person in the room who says "How do we fix it?" In modern times we could do with a little less doomerism, and a little more figuring out ways to fix it.

I loved how Athena worked in the film. When she shuts herself off, Casey screams in horror, which is a completely realistic reaction to a little girl appearing to be dead. Athena is a really cool character. I love at the end, as she's dying, she reveals the REAL reason why Frank has never made her laugh: He's not funny. You know, she has a point.

Jeff Jensen cowrote the story. Doc Jensen was one of my favorite columnists from Entertainment Weekly. A LOT of entertainment sites do episode Recaps, but if you ask me, Jensen's detailed oriented Recaps of Lost and Twin Peaks, with their crazy (and soon to be proven untrue) theories, showed a real spark of creativity. I love that the first movie he scripted explored The Big Ideas too.

I love Casey locking Frank out of the house. He says she can't touch his things, and he's serious. She asks if she can stay. He says no. Then she touches his stuff because he isn't serious. It's crap like that I love.

And maybe the bit about the wolf you feed is a cliche, but it's a well-worn one for a reason, and the right one for the movie. I love how she shrewdly pointed out Frank assuming unkind things about her father (which happen to not be true) says more about the relationship he had with his father than she has with hers.

The kid who played Sonny Jim Jones on Twin Peaks: The Return plays Casey's brother Nate. I thought that was neat.

A little disappointing this movie didn't lead to bigger and better things for Under The Dome's Britt Robertson. She was a real talent, and sort of got lost in the decade. She deserved a bigger career. I wish the movie had hit bigger.

George Clooney needs to do more genre pictures.

I was late in seeing it. But I love it. 5 stars.
