Teen Titans Go! "Unmasking - The Teen Titans Story"

The premise is great, the execution is so-so.

I love that Keith David is the Narrator, but the thing with Sam Register and the hard-boiled eggs was just plain weird. And the thing with Vishnu sneaking into the control room explains why the show was spammed so much. Pretty funny and super annoying.

Still, not gonna turn up my nose at Scott Menville belting out the Teen Titans Theme. I'm not made of stone. Where's his freaking Emmy? 4 stars.

Teen Titans Go! "Helmet Of Doom"

I love the Bane chair. "My back!"

I also love Cyborg calling the water "Nizasty". I'm gonna hafta remember that one. 3 1/2 stars.

Teen Titans Go! "Bro, Where's The Batmobile?"

Birdarang episode? Okay.

I was VERY pleased to see Jerk Daffy Duck. Newer Looney Tunes projects have been using the older Wacky Daffy exclusively, and I'm Gen X. I grew up with Jerk Daffy. He's the one I'm most familiar with, and the one I love, and Looney Tunes bringing back the earliest iteration isn't doing MY nostalgia any favors. I'm betting people 90 years old and up ADORE the newer Looney Tunes projects, but I really don't think people my age or younger were ever demanding the return of Wacky Daffy.

My two cents. 3 1/2 stars.

Teen Titans Go! "White Elephant"

Oh, my God! A happy ending for Teen Titans Go! It's a Christmas miracle! The true spirit of Christmas is socks.

Just putting it out there, whoever invented the game White Elephant / Evil Santa is burning in Hell. There is nothing fun about it, nobody likes it, and it brings out the worst in people. Christmas is a great holiday with which I have few negative notes. I can take or leave Candy Canes and Fruitcake but most everything else is excellent.

Except for the White Elephant. I don't understand why more people in offices don't bitch about it. It sucks. 5 stars.

Teen Titans Go! "Chowda"

I’m a Masshole but never was into Chowder. I think New Yorkers got better claims to pizza and Philadelphians have better claims to Cheesesteak.

Deadman can’t actually be seen by the living in most DC continuities. I like that even HE has pondered that his name should probably actually be Possession Man.

Loved the Titans’ new walks.

Mostly amusing. 3 1/2 stars.

Teen Titans Go! "Activate"

I thought Robin drinking Zan was extremely dark (Jayna’s reaction was actually quite upsetting) but at least the show had the good sense to walk it back at the end. 2 1/2 stars.

Teen Titans Go! "Ice Cold"

In most DC Comics versions Captain Cold is quite likable and this episode sort of leans into that. Or more accurately, makes fun of that fact. 4 stars.

Teen Titans Go! "Cake"

I both love eating cake and don’t understand its appeal. I think its taste is only pretty good, and it’s usually too sweet and rich for me. And yet every time I see it I want a piece. There isn’t really any other food that makes a person stop and say “Ooh, cake! Where’d you get cake?” Not sure why it has the pull it does, but unlike the Chowder thing a few episodes ago, this is a real thing for real people.

This Batman is a hot mess. The gravestone thing was entirely inappropriate which is why it was funny. But a TON of fans won’t be pleased, which actually makes it funnier to me.

I don’t understand the mystery of cake. 3 stars.

Teen Titans Go! "DC Leader Swap"

They spent too much time on the Robin stuff. It was the weak link of the episode and then giving it equal time to Joker and the Titans is a mistake.

And of course the moral is the Teen Titans are crazier and more evil than the Joker, and completely drive the poor guy nuts. Correct moral.

I thought it was a great when it focused on the Joker. Robin and the hoods was less successful. 4 stars.
Teen Titans Go! "Shhh"

Some of the episodes of this show I've only seen once, and my memory isn't great, but I'm willing to bet that was one of the single best random premises for the show ever, if not THE best.

What a great way to get a dialogue-free episode. I promised myself the only way this gem wouldn't get five stars is if they gutlessly had the characters speak at the end because voice actors needs to get paid. Nope, this stuck the landing instead. Well played. 5 stars.

Teen Titans Go! "Crime Alert"

The Titans really have always had no redeeming virtues.

Loved Cyborg's "Old Body". Everybody laughs at it because that is the correct reaction.

The show keeps hedging back and forth over whether or not Silkie is actually lost. I've missed my little bungorf.

Starfire REALLY wants Robin's kidneys. Creepy.

Robin sucks, but you gotta feel for the dude sometimes. 3 stars.

Teen Titans Go! "Mani-Pedi"

The sight gags of the Titans so easily defeating Brother Blood at the beginning were really funny.

Want to know an interesting thing? The visual effects of the action sequences are better boarded and animated on this show than they are on the original series. That's not because the show's animation is better (it's Flash and it's dreadful). It's not because the old show's animation was lousy (it was anime-inspired and visually beautiful). It because in the meantime between shows, animation techniques have evolved so far that the crappiest, cheapest show right now has harder-hitting fights than the best, most polished shows from 20 years ago.

I love that Beast Boy and Cyborg are into getting their nails done too.

Funny episode. 3 1/2 stars.

Teen Titans Go! "Not A Halloween Special"

Surprise Billy And Mandy crossover! The voices are credited too! Yay!

I love the Titans' reactions to Starfire with the ice cream cone. Psycho.

They mention the Halloween and Christmas Specials (and probably the Easter ones too) are probably Cartoon Network contractual obligations. They sure as hell aren't producing great holiday toons year in and year out.

That wasn't bad though. 3 1/2 stars.

Teen Titans Go! "High Five"

After watching that animated piece shit for 11 minutes (which are 11 minutes of my life I'll never get back) my mind started wandering. And asking big questions. Like could I possibly name a SINGLE way in which the pop-culture landscape is better for this show existing?

This episode proves there isn't one. The show is sometimes funny. But there is zero artistic and creative merit to it at all times. For a freaking cartoon? That's troubling.

Beast Boy in the diaper is funny because it's in character. Once the other Titans do the bit too it's suddenly the most appalling thing ever.

Why didn't any of the Titans think to tackle Sticky Joe? Hell, Raven could have sent him through a portal.

Condiment King is in no way shape or form some sort of sacred, unimpeachable DC character. But even though he isn't, this is still the shoddiest version I have ever seen. He's not even wearing a food-based costume. What kind of horseshit is this?

Sometimes I give this show a good review, and basically say this show's haters are watching the wrong show for the wrong reasons. But the truth is the reason people actually hate the show is become it sometimes DOES legit suck this much. I can disagree at times which are the bad episodes, but there is no doubt in my mind that people who actually hate this show only do so because it often legit sucks. And it's impossible NOT to hate a show that sometimes sucks THIS bad. 0.

Teen Titans Go! "Stickiest Situation"

You know the show has been on the air for 9 seasons because they sometimes do Sticky Joe episodes.

Like the new Cyborg DC logo at the beginning. The bullet is back, baby!

Sea-horse on the rock this year.

I love that after seeing the tombstone clouds that say "RIP Mom" and "RIP Dad" Batman and Gordon laugh anyways. They can't help themselves.

Most franchises would just REFERENCE the Roadrunner. This show turns it into an official Looney Tunes crossover! How can you hate that?

Out of all the characters I expected to see adapted, Danny the Street was not remotely a guess I ever would have made.

Speaking of which, is Bootface real? I suspect he is or they wouldn't have bothered. But this is just another thing to prove that DC Comics is actually a totally ridiculous franchise.

Yeah, yeah, Sticky Joe. I'm just all in on the Roadrunner. 3 1/2 stars.

Teen Titans Go! "Moonlighting"

I remember Dr. Moon from Justice League Unlimited. He replaced Dr. Hugo Strange in Cadmus because of the Bat-Embargo.

I love Starfire opening wide.

Raven trying to reschedule the bank robbery was hilarious. Especially funny because the whole thing ended with the robbers curb-stomping Robin.

Cyborg likes cars and has poor social skills. Therefore his ideal second job is a ride-share driver. I love that his second pick-up after Robin is Painbot. Birdarang says, "S'up" too.

"Titans! Unplug that giant nightlight!" The Titans superhero battles are different than other superhero battles.

I thought it was funny. 4 stars.

Teen Titans Go! "Freak Show"

I loved it.

Here's something: As much reverence as Control Freak, excuse me, KYLE, shows for the original series, I like this show proving via clips it had a ton of dumb gross-out humor too. I think major difference is the original show's comic timing sucked.

You can complain that the cast only screams now, but the truth is their performances are much better now than they were then. As vulgar and loud as this show is, ironically its dialogue is more naturalistic, and feels less forced and cliched. Scott Menville annoyed me every week on the old show. Here he's this guy who can belt out Auld Lang Syne in falsetto and kill it every damn time. Nobody on The Original Series deserved an Emmy for their performance. I think Menville ought to be at least NOMINATED for one for this show.

Menville's performance on the old show made both Robin, and himself as an actor, seem incredibly square. His manic energy as seen in the scene where the cast play themselves in the recording booth, makes him seem really cool in real life.

I loved this episode. Who can object to THAT kind of clip show? 5 stars.

Teen Titans Go! "Teen? Titans"

Yeah, Scott Menville ought to at least be NOMINATED for an Emmy.

They did it a super creepy way but Starfire actually being a baby makes sense.

Beast Boy may only be 14, but in DOG YEARS? He's gots to go.

Pretty good. 3 stars.

Teen Titans Go! "Four Hundred"

One of the interesting things about Teen Titans Go! is it is VERY aware of how disliked it is. The idea that it's DC's longest running series is a bad thing. It's an embarrassment really. And it's funny that the show plays that angle up.

Just for the record I bet Kamandi put more effort into his costume than Superboy did.

I loved the Nightmare Before Christmas stuff with Starfire. I think the show should just be stop-motion from here on out.

Those colored hands as the face were a great visual. Never seen a pantomime quite like it. It looked amazing.

David Kaye is more affordable for Superman than Nic Cage.

I really liked it. 4 1/2 stars.
