Bob's Burgers "Like A Candle In The Gym"

Spoiler

I didn't find that very effective.

Louise spends the entire episode trying to convince Megan she's gonna get in trouble and she needs to knock it off. And at the 20 minute mark of the episode... Megan decides to delete the video. Not because Louise made any kind of convincing argument or proved she was wrong. But because it's the end of the episode and that's what needed to happen.

That's not good dramatic tension.

Also Linda making baby talk to the baby in the stroller in the shopping cart was beyond creepy. Linda is actually quite creepy in general.

My favorite moment in this otherwise disappointing episode was Tina asking Bob, "What happened, man?" and him responding, "I said I was sorry." It wasn't just a funny moment. I related to both characters for different reasons. It was a very realistic moment, if not one you expect between a father and daughter. It was great.

But the episode's conclusion felt by-the-numbers instead of organic. The happy ending occurred because the episode ended, not because it was earned. 2 stars.

Bob's Burgers "Snackface"

Spoiler

This would have been a great episode. But Millie is in it. I can't stand that character.

But Tina asking if it's weird that kids like eating things that are awful is a good question. Yeah, it's absolutely true. And considering how much kids bitch about having to eat their vegetables actually makes no fucking sense. Kids are weird.

I love Computer Dave. Although the fact that Bob and Linda are too stupid and lazy to back their files up actually annoys me. It should be a non-issue. Especially dumb since their laptop was on its last legs. Honestly, shit like that makes me dislike both characters a little. I don't why. But it does.

The potential for greatness was quashed via Millie and Bob and Lin stupidity. We are left with okayness. 3 stars.

Bob's Burgers "The Place Behind The Pinecones"

Spoiler

"Boom goes the pineamite."

Bob's Burgers is NOT the show you'd think would lend itself to a great Get Out homage, but there it is. I love when the girls are invited to escape at the end, they remind Tina their parents are gonna pick them up. Why didn't the guy from Get Out think of that?

Funny. Also I wanna go to the camp where you DON'T have to stick stones in your mouth. 4 stars.

Bob's Burgers "The Lost City Of Atlantic"

Spoiler

It's an enjoyable episode with a good moral dilemma for Linda, but the thing I will most love and remember about the episode was when Linda makes sure that if Bob had a secret family, he'd tell her. And he's like, "Oh, yeah, that sounds like a LOT of work." That is like the most perfect Bob thing to say to that specific idea.

The episode was fun, and in places kind of sad and wistful. Adults adulting. It's good stuff and a good week. 4 1/2 stars.

Bob's Burgers "The Shell Game"

Spoiler

Bob's tearfully pleading to the tortoise Ulysses to come to him is easily the most pathetic thing we've ever seen him do. I didn't like it for that reason.

I have to say Inga makes things a LOT harder than they need to be. It's NOT just Mr. Fischoeder responsible for that mess. Not at all.

Lots of good turtle and shell puns. Some of the worse ones were given shade, which I like.

It was pretty funny. 3 1/2 stars.

Bob's Burgers "Wild Steal-ions"

Spoiler

Didn't like it. Why? Because Regan is one of the most loathsome villains the show has ever come up with and she is never punished for her horrible actions. She gets away with it entirely. That pisses me off.

On the other hand it's been awhile since we've seen Teddy, which is weird because Larry Murphy is a series regular. Talk about dropping the ball.

Funniest joke was upon seeing the kids were gone, Bob asks Linda if they should have more. They could use the help. There's a great dad right there.

Fuck Regan and the horse she rode in on. **1/2.

Bob's Burgers "Don't Worry, Be Hoopy"

Spoiler

The Granny throw. I just love how little of a shit the coach gives about his job. I feel him very hard there.

Gene was even grosser than usual this episode, which is a statement. The marble thing made me want to toss the kid into a cement mixer.

For the record, BOB'S pep talk was MUCH worse and more damaging than Linda's. You expect Linda to say stupid shit. When Bob fumbles basically being a decent parent things have gone sideways.

6 year old Tina is cute, dammit. Okay, one more.

Every time Jimmy Junior opens his mouth I always wonder anew what Tina ever sees in this total zero. Girl can do and deserves better.

Teddy on the bleachers was funny. Teddy has been too absent recently.

I liked it. 3 1/2 stars.

Bob's Burgers "The Dead Bo-ats Society"

Spoiler

My least favorite Bob's Burgers episodes involve the kids doing something utterly stupid and preventable, only because Louise demands it.

Yeah, didn't dig this.

Another trope of the show I hate is Teddy being his own worst enemy.

Not a fan of this episode. Twice.

On the plus side, Bob himself was funny. He sounds like a supervillain ("We'll have them forever!") and I love that he loves winning wagers with his children. The fact that he would have actually held his kids to that awful bet means he's either the worst dad ever or the best dad ever. I can't decide which.

But the reason I am never as enamored with Louise as other fans are is because of shit like this. 2 stars.

Bob's Burgers "Dad-urday Kite Fever"

Spoiler

I stand by my opinion that Eric Bauza is the greatest voice actor of all time. Big Bob doesn't sound like a SINGLE one of his other characters. He's literally the only voice actor I've heard in multiple projects that I often don't instantly recognize. He's a once-in-a-generation talent like Mel Blanc and Frank Welker. I just don't think most people realize it yet.

I love that Linda recognizes Critter by voice. Critter's scariness as a biker is nothing compared to his scariness as a protective dad.

Snakebite's therapy session while Bob was in the water was amazing. Dying is pretty much the opposite of being there for your kids, Bob. Where has this sage been this entire time?

I forget the name of the biker whose mullet Critter cut off, but he DOES look like a dork.

Big Bob is used rarely, but is a rare character who is an even bigger deadpanner than Bob is. Bob isn't the straight man in an episode where his father is present.

Good thing about 2 Bob's Burgers episodes in one night is if one of them sucks (and the first one truly did) the other one probably won't (and this one didn't). 3 1/2 stars.

Bob's Burgers "Mr. Safebody"

Spoiler

Arnold has a great character design. Love those yellow glasses.

I was thinking Arnold shouldn't trust Louise for this because she ruins everything, but then he runs away from the bullies screaming and I realized this was never gonna work out anyways.

Gene had a couple of funny moments. Joking about corporate America being afraid of boards and demanding Louise get down off her ivory tower. Unfortunately, I remember how much and why I hate the kid because he's about to eat an old French fry off the dirty floor of a place he saw a dead rat. The show didn't actually have him do it because even THEY knew that was too far, but the fact that they had him thinking about it is why he sucks. Unbelievable.

The thing with the radio and the crime scene was less successful but of course when the fingerprint guy shuts of the radio, it's a song Bob actually likes. Worse, it's a song like "Sweet Caroline" that is cut off right before the crescendo "release". Bob yells at the guy to turn the radio back on, he claims there's a dead body in the backseat, waits a beat, says he's joking, puts back on the baller song, and Bob gets in a rare minor win.

Arnold's idea for dealing with the bullies was genius. I love it when people outwit their enemies, and that's how the characters on this show always survive. I love it.

The episode was pretty good. 3 1/2 stars.

Bob's Burgers "Insomnibob"

Spoiler

I have never seen Bob so messed up. And we've seen him pretty messed up before this.

I love how awkward and conversational his talk with Skip was about his family. I thought it was funny.

I love the neighbor saying he once knew a Challenging Norm, and he'll tell them what he told him: "No, thank you!" George Wallace is a national treasure.

Honestly, some of it was upsetting, mostly because we NEVER see the character THAT completely messed up. TED. But a lot of it was funny too. 3 1/2 stars.
