Dug Days: Carl's Date

Why the hell was that not dedicated to Ed Asner? It was the perfect swan song for Carl. It wasn't INTENDED to be the last Dug Days, but it was such a great place to leave things I see why they saved it for the theater. The lack of a dedication card is a very big hole in the episode.

I also liked getting a bit of wrap-up with Alpha and hearing what happened to Muncie's other dogs.

Carl saying Ellie was still his girl to the photo sort of gets me choked up. Again, this was absolutely the right ending.

Dug rolling around floor because he hated the cologne was hilarious. I don't find Dug as adorable and hilarious as everyone else does. But he still IS both of those things at times.

I see why they saved this for the theater. I am just angry Asner didn't get his due. 4 1/2 stars.

I miss Ed Asner already. It's a really nice progression and evolution that Carl has gotten so understanding and loving of Dug's weirdness. That's the most appealing thing about the short for me.

We've seen Dug on alert for squirrels, but we've never seen him interact with one before. I can see why he doesn't like them.

The first short was cute. 4 stars.

Dug Days "Puppies"

You know what? I didn't like the puppies destroying Dug's toys. That actually upset me. 2 1/2 stars.

Dug Days "Flowers"

I just realize that I much prefer these shorts to the idea of a sequel to Up. These are pretty much all I need. 3 1/2 stars.

Dug Days "Smell"

Dug is so cute. He really is A Good Boy. 4 stars.

Dug Days "Science"

Russell! One of the cool things about Up is that all of the characters are lovable and compelling. And yes, I was very glad to see the Little Mailman again.

What's interesting about the scene with Dug and the talking bird and squirrel is that all three are essentially engaged in a philosophical debate. I think I appreciated that so much because I didn't expect that to come when it did. That was really cool as was Carl's affirmation that Dug is his best friend. Good dog. 5 stars.
