Jay And Silent Bob Reboot

I liked it. It's definitely a better movie than Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back. For one thing, Jay has become a LOT more likable in the intervening years. He's not loathsome or homophobic anymore, and I love that he empowers Silent Bob's weight loss here. And his scenes with Milly have surprising resonance too. When Jihad describes the fact that her brother tried to honor-kill her in her sleep and you realize this is not the disposable movie the first one was.

My favorite part is finding out that Holden and Alyssa are great friends and share a kid together. I was never crazy about the ending to Chasing Amy and the place Smith left those two. I thought Holden's idea of a threesome with Banksy was outright offensive there, and I thought it was a sour place to leave their relationship before Silent Bob's big Chasing Amy speech. And I love that their daughter is named Amy.

Was there a reason Jeff Anderson as Randall didn't show up? Scheduling conflicts? Falling out with Kevin Smith? Inquiring minds want to know.

I feel like the climax was a bit all over the map and Smith sort of lost track of it. He sort of makes fun of that in a meta way as himself. But that doesn't mean he didn't actually lose track of the climax there.

I haven't sen Dogma yet, but I want to now. Matt Damon's cameo as Loki here was amazing.

Shannon Elizabeth is still my dream girl.

I think this shares the meta and corniness of the first Jay and Silent Bob movie, but attaches the heart other Smith projects are known for. I really dig it for that reason. ****1/2.
