Robocop 2

I didn't like the first movie but I thought it had a few redeeming features. I didn't like this movie but don't think it had any redeeming features.

It's rightwing apologia, if not propaganda. And people will push back on me saying that because of the anti-corporate tone. But the corporation wins at the end. Ultimately the status quo is upheld so it's clear any criticisms the film has towards that are bullshit.

I looked at the end credits and see Frank Miller cowrote the screenplay. I was like, "Of course." I don't understand why this hack has any fans at all.

So Robocop 2 is not just the name of the movie, it's the name of the villain. Now he can truly be Superman IV: The Quest For Peace.

I felt nothing for this movie. And dude-bros'll tell me, "It's a mindless action movie, Matt. You don't have to FEEL something in every project. Just enjoy the mayhem." I never enjoy mayhem. And without stakes or characters to care about, the mayhem is meaningless. There is no such thing as a fun mindless action movie for me. If I can't make a connection with a film, there is no fun to be had.

I hear Robocop 3 is even worse. Wouldn't surprise me. Let's find out. 1 star.
