I thought that was pretty good. It was far gorier than the first three, but I did not see it being Jill coming. She was the last person I expected (outside of Gale, Dewey, or Sid) which makes it perfect it was her. I'm not sure if the mystery will hold together perfectly upon a rewatch (although I'm confident it will). But it will definitely be more interesting upon a rewatch.

The stuff about the danger of social media making kids do crazy things for fame was ahead of its time. Also, this was before MeToo, so I recognized the utter b.s. of Sid's mere presence being the reason for the killings as perfect victim-blaming, and why that movement became necessary. Also, the fact that Charlie is an incel and bitterly resents the fact that Kirby making a move on him was too late feels more timely now too.

I like the snap about not messing with the original. Very good. I felt the film was a little long, and the triple opening didn't help (although I liked Kristen Bell stabbing Anna Paquin in the stomach). The first opening (which was actually Stab 6) had an interesting critique of Saw. That film isn't scary, because you don't care about the characters, and it's just gross. And I kind of see their point.

I'm a little surprised I like that. Good last film for Wes Craven. ***1/2.
