Spinal Tap II: The End Continues The vibe was very different for this one. And honestly, it worked for most of the movie. But the ending worked against it. Tell me if I'm wrong. But part of the fun of the first film was enjoying the band's embarrassment and cringing to it. Watching them repeatedly fail was entertaining. For this? I'm rooting for them instead. And the disaster ending, leading to perhaps the drummer choking to death in the end credits harshed my mellow. I feel like the cynical ending was not something that fit in with how I was feeling seeing these characters decades later. And it's Rob Reiner's final film too, so I dunno, the disaster isn't enjoyable for me this time. Also, I feel like the film leaned too heavily into the celebrity cameos. You get Paul McCartney and Elton John, you wanna use them, but that's not what this is supposed to be. I was enjoying most of the movie, but the ending confused things for me a lot. A mixed bag. 3 1/2 stars.
