Wednesday "Here We Woe Again"

Spoiler

The thing that has always made me wary of the show is how gimmicky it is. Sometimes I just wish it would stop doing shtick.

I loved the stop-motion sequence.

Interesting that Billie Piper is the music teacher.

That painting at the end was vulgar. I don't like destroying art and yet when Wednesday burned it it felt almost justified.

I love that when the zombie looks at Pugsley he smiles.

The show is so like The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina it's scary. Fortunately the quality is higher here. 3 1/2 stars.

Wednesday "The Devil You Woe"

Spoiler

Luis Guzman has turned out to be fantastic as Gomez Addams. He was just kind of in the background in Season 1, but he had some good scenes that showcased him perfectly here. I am totally on-board.

I love that Pugsley named the zombie Slurpy.

The Good: Wednesday's "Why You Suck," speech is unlike any other given to a young female character who has been betrayed by their boyfriend. I was like, "Shit, why couldn't Buffy or Veronica Mars ever get THIS?" This is everything I ever wanted there.

The Bad: He's shirtless the entire scene. Because this is Television and Television is absolutely terrible at all times.

Not a bad episode though. 4 stars.

Wednesday "Call Of The Woe"

Spoiler

There's Christina Ricci. It would be wrong to do the show without her.

I didn't recognize Anthony Michael Hall as the drill sergeant until I read the end credits. But that makes sense it's him.

I checked Wikipedia because I've been watching Catherine Zeta-Jones movies for decades. She's currently 55. On this show, she looks like she's in her 20's. We all used to joke about how lucky 60 year old Michael Douglas was for landing her, but 80 year old Michael Douglas? Life is simply unfair to the rest of us.

I found the camp competition tiresome. And worse, Television. Luckily that wasn't ALL the episode was about. But it was about it enough. 3 stars.

Wednesday "If These Woes Could Talk"

Spoiler

Feels like the wrong place to leave things off, but they probably shouldn't have split up the season to begin with.

About Fester. First of all I love the idea that he only gets caught when he WANTS to get caught. But the truth is all of his stuff is too broad and shticky, and maybe fans of this show dig that about it. For me, it's wearing pretty fucking thin at this point. It's like "We get it. They're morbid. Let's move on, okay?"

So-so but I might have had a different reaction if I didn't have to wait a month for any resolution. 2 1/2 stars.

Wednesday "Hide And Woe Seek"

Spoiler

It's amazing how none of that worked.

I was getting increasingly frustrated with the show over the last batch of episodes. It was too jokey, gimmicky, and tacky. Riverdale / Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina at its worst. I wondered if perhaps a month's break would cool off my disgust.

Nah, I think the show is forced and lame because it IS forced and lame. Binging can sometimes negatively effect one's opinion on a show. Not this time. My disgust was actually right. Who knew? 1 star.

Wednesday "Woe Thyself"

Spoiler

The teaser jokes that this is the Wednesday we didn't even know we wanted. I think the whole thing is just embarrassing.

Also not impressed by the cliffhanger. It's television. They'll weasel their way out of it. They always do. 1 star.

Wednesday "Woe Me The Money"

Spoiler

The teaser with Dort and Gideon was actually kind of interesting and I felt Dort's end was pretty just.

I also liked that the thing that turned Wednesday against her grandmama is her talking shit about Gomez. That simply isn't done.

Better than average. 3 stars.

Wednesday "This Means Woe"

Spoiler

"That was A Bit Much." A statement that could pretty much describe Tim Burton's entire career.

An origin story for Thing? Are we allowed to do that? Do we even WANT that?

It wasn't bad by any means, but I can't really see what larger purpose this show's existence serves. Maybe if I enjoyed it? But I guess with reality as it is, no. 2 1/2 stars.
