Batwheels - DC's First Preschool Animated Series On HBO Max & Cartoon Network
May 20, 2022

Holy Hubcaps! Cartoonito is revving up for Batwheels, announcing today the DC Super-Villain voice cast lineup. Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) as Catwoman, Xolo Maridueña (Cobra Kai) as Snowy the Snowcrawler, and Tom Kenny (Spongebob Squarepants) as Crash, lead the talented cast voicing some of Batman’s most iconic adversaries in the upcoming preschool action-adventure animated comedy.

The villains will go bumper-to-bumper against the heroes of Batwheels voiced by the previously announced cast led by Ethan Hawke (as Batman), Jacob Bertrand (as Bam the Batmobile), and AJ Hudson (as Duke Thomas/Robin). Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the series will race onto Cartoonito on HBO Max and Cartoon Network this fall.

The evil counterpart to the heroic Batwheels, the Legion of Zoom is a team of sentient vehicles brought to computerized life by Badcomputer, the new ultimate computer of the DC Universe. They, like the Batwheels, are essentially kids with little to no life experience. However, unlike the Batwheels, “The Zooms” are under Badcomputer’s malevolent guidance and often don’t make the best decisions. Prank, the Jokermobile, and the rest of the villainous squad wreak havoc on Gotham City alongside The Joker, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and more of the Caped Crusader’s infamous rogues gallery.

The complete DC Super-Villain voice cast lineup includes:

The Legion of Zoom

Griffin Burns (The Addams Family 2) as Prank—The Joker’s favorite ride, Prank is tricked out with all manner of pernicious pranks – confetti cannons, a joy buzzer, and the like. Prank is often more interested in having a good laugh at someone’s expense than carrying out a plan.
Alexandra Novelle as Jetstah— Harley Quinn’s souped-up ATV, Jetstah displays all of the same obnoxious irreverence as her owner, along with an even bigger, badder giant mallet! Jetstah is full of tricks and loves to mock and tease the Batwheels as they chase her through the streets of Gotham City.
Josey Montana McCoy (Genshin Impact) as Quizz – Like his owner, The Riddler’s helicopter loves to befuddle the Batwheels with riddles, but unlike The Riddler’s, his riddles don’t always make sense. Quizz has the ability to skywrite them, broadcast them, and even drop parachuted riddle leaflets from above. As the youngest of the Zooms, Quizz is prone to throwing tantrums, especially when no one can figure out his riddles, even when they’re “sooooooo obvious!”

Ariyan Kassam (Great Pretender) as Ducky – The Penguin’s vehicle is an amphibious duck boat. Ducky can travel on land or sea, and is equipped with an array of sneaky surprises like umbrella shields and a squid-ink sprayer. He is a bit of a snob like his owner, and doesn’t always get along with the rest of the Zooms.

Xolo Maridueña (Cobri Kai) as Snowy – Mr. Freeze’s snowcrawler is armed with snow blowers and icicle missiles that can freeze opponents in their tracks. But due to his big, clumsy treads, Snowy is the slowest of the Zooms, often lagging behind and becoming the object of derision. Because of the way he’s treated by his teammates, he sometimes thinks about swapping sides and joining the Batwheels, though he would never admit that to the other Zooms.

SungWon Cho as Badcomputer – Badcomputer will not rest until he reigns supreme as the most advance computer intelligence in Gotham City—a title threatened by the hyper-advanced Batcomputer. As a being of refined intellect, Badcomputer holds little patience for the humbling antics of the Legion of Zoom, but fueled by his unrelenting jealousy of Batcomputer’s impressive hardware, he’ll have to settle for the tools he has at his disposal. It’s hard to get good help these days…

Tom Kenny (Spongebob Squarepants) as Crash – Badcomputer’s robotic minion, Crash is a begrudgingly obedient test dummy tasked with assisting Badcomputer’s evil schemes. Despite being constantly blown to bits (often accompanied by his signature snark and quick wit), Crash is a powerful adversary who can hold his own against the Batwheels.

The Rogues Gallery

Gina Rodriguez (Jane the Virgin) as Catwoman – The sneakiest of our Super-Villains, Catwoman loves to utilize her stealth and cunning to get her claws on the shiniest of trinkets and baubles Gotham City has to offer. Though she prefers to work alone, Catwoman is no stranger to playing both sides—good or bad—in order toget what she wants.

Mick Wingert (What If?) as The Joker—The ultimate prankster, all The Joker wants is to make everyone laugh…No matter how far he needs to go! The Joker revels in pushing Batman’s buttons, and if it means he can sneak off with a few bundles of cash from the bank in the process, even better! The Joker rarely takes anything seriously, but nothing makes his blood boil quite like getting burned by Batman.

Chandni Parekh (Big Nate) as Harley Quinn—Harley Quinn is the hyper kid on the block with no boundaries. She’s all about fun all the time—and what’s more fun than dunking on Batman? Nothing! Harley’s got a penchant for fast-paced heists and daredevil antics. Watch out for that mallet!

SungWon Cho as The Riddler—The Riddler would probably be respected for his quick wit and clever mind if he weren’t such a nagging know-it-all! He’s a super-nerd that thinks he’s the smartest person in Gotham City, and he’s on a personal mission to make everyone know it.

Jess Harnell (Animaniacs) as Penguin – A villain with a bottomless appetite for more, more, more! Penguin is the spoiled man-child of the bunch, always wanting to have the biggest, most ambitious schemes and heists. But with his mega-inflated ego, Penguin is also prone to throwng mega-tantrums when things don’t go his way. He’ll stop at nothing to get things his way—even if it means throwing his fellow Super-Villains under the bus.

Regi Davis (Mindhunter) as Mr. Freeze– A grouch and a grinch, Mr. Freeze is the ultimate downer who always seems to wake up on the wrong side of the bed. Just about everything (especially fun, ugh!) annoys his peevish popsicle—so he sees it as his personal mission to ice over Gotham City to make things nice and quiet. You don’t want to end up on the wrong side of his ice cannon (of his signature ice-based puns).

James Arnold Taylor (Star Wars: The Clone Wars & Rebels) as Toyman—Toyman loves nothing but playing with the latest and greatest toys—the only problem is, his idea of “toys” increasingly seems to encompass volatile high-technology. All he wants to do is play in peace, but that pesky Batman keeps ruining his playdates. He might be a bit of a choking hazard for the Caped Crusader.

Previously announced DC Super Heroes joining Hawke’s Batman, Bertrand’s Bam, and Hudson’s Robin include the rest of the Batwheels team—Bibi (The Batgirl Cycle) voiced by Madigan Kacmar, Redbird (Robin’s Sports Car) voiced by Jordan Reed, The Batwing voiced by Lilimar, and Buff (The Bat Truck) voiced by Noah Bentley —plus Bat-family member Cassandra Cain/Batgirl voiced by Leah Lewis. The Batwheels are cared for by their trainer and mother figure Batcomputer, voiced by Kimberly D. Brooks, and Batman’s robot repairman Mo, voiced by Mick Wingert.

More about Batwheels

They are a team of incredible crimefighters who have banded together to oppose evil, combat crime and clean up the streets of Gotham City. They are…okay, they’re NOT Batman and Robin. They’re the Batwheels - an awesome group of sentient super-powered crime-fighting vehicles defending Gotham City alongside Batman, Robin, Batgirl and a host of DC Super Heroes.

Having just been created by the Batcomputer, our heroes are essentially kids with little to no life experience. Led by Bam (The Batmobile), the Batwheels - Bibi (The Batgirl Cycle), Redbird (Robin’s Sports Car), The Batwing and Buff (The Bat Truck) – must navigate the growing pains of being a newly formed super team as well as the growing pains that come with just being a kid. This relatable and aspirational series will follow the journey of this dynamic team as they thrill and entertain with their heroic adventures as well as demonstrate to kids the value of self-confidence, friendship and teamwork.

Sam Register (Looney Tunes Cartoons) serves as executive producer. Michael G. Stern (Doc McStuffins) serves as co-executive producer, Simon J. Smith (Penguins of Madagascar) is supervising producer and Steven Fink of Bang Zoom Ltd. is producer.

Love the theme song, great homage to the '66 theme.  Nice animation, too.  Not all gravityless float-y like most kids' CGI TV animation.

Batwheels shifted into high gear today, treating fans at San Diego Comic-Con to a sneak peek teaser of DC's first-ever animated Batman preschool series. "Meet the Batwheels" opened DC's "Comics are Fun for Everyone" panel and introduced fans to the crime-fighting Batwheels team - Bam (the Batmobile), Bibi (the Batgirl Cycle), Redbird (Robin's Sports Car), Batwing (the Batwing Jet Plane), and Buff (The Bat Truck).

Also announced on today's panel, Batwheels will debut a half-hour origin special on Batman Day, Saturday, Sept. 17, exclusively first on Cartoonito on HBO Max, and premiere later on Cartoonito on Cartoon Network. "Secret Origin of the Batwheels" will tell the backstory of how the Batwheels team came to be.

Batwheels follows a group of young sentient super-powered vehicles as they defend Gotham City alongside Batman, Robin, and Batgirl. Batwheels officially launches later this fall on Cartoonito on Cartoon Network and Cartoonito on HBO Max.

The all-star voice cast includes Ethan Hawke (as Batman), Jacob Bertand (as Bam the Batmobile), Gina Rodriguez (as Catwoman) and Xolo Maridueña (as Snowy the Snowcrawler), among others. Sam Register (Looney Tunes Cartoons) serves as executive producer. Michael G. Stern (Doc McStuffins) serves as co-executive producer, Simon J. Smith (Penguins of Madagascar) is supervising producer and Steven Fink of Bang Zoom Ltd. is producer. Based on characters from DC, Batwheels is produced by Warner Bros. Animation. Animation services provided by Superprod Studio.

Batwheels "Secret Origin Of The Batwheels"

Spoiler

Has anybody mentioned how pleasingly colorful the animation is? For some reason, CGI superhero shows all look so damn drab. With the exception of The Incredibles, the medium seems to really take the color out of the costumes and gimmicks. Probably because for most animated action series, they go for a bit of a realistic feel regarding costumes, direction, and lighting. This feels very much like a colorful cartoon instead of trying to be realistic. Which is good.

I'm not happy about the idea that the Bat-Team itself is not allowed to be aware of the cars being alive. It seems like the kind of lame conceit that was only really necessary when superhero storytelling was less advanced. It seems silly (not to mention pointless) in 2022.

DC is not a franchise that easily lends itself to preschool audiences. I don't think this show is as good as Krypto The Superdog. But it's definitely better than Shea Fontana's version of DC Superhero Girls. I liked the first episode. 3 1/2 stars.

Batwheels "Meet The Batwheels"

Spoiler
Cute music video. 3 1/2 stars.

ThunderCats Ultimates! Wish List: Safari Joe, Turmagar, Tuska Warrior, Topspinner, Ram-Bam, Cruncher, Red-Eye, Tug-Mug, Driller, Ro-Bear Belle, Ro-Bear Bert, Nayda, Mumm-Rana, Dr. Dometone, Stinger, Captain Bragg & Crowman, Astral Moat Monster, Spidera, Snowmeow, Wolfrat.

Batwheels "Stop That Ducky!"

Spoiler
The episode is very poorly written but I like that the show's animation is so colorful. We need more colorful superhero cartoons. Even if they are for preschoolers. 2 1/2 stars.

Batwheels "Buff's BFF"

Spoiler

Interesting concept, somewhat hamfisted execution.

The song was clearly a tribute to the theme from The Courtship Of Eddie's Father.

I love Batman saying "The puns aren't actually funny. You know that right?" to Mr. Freeze.

Sort of cute. 3 stars.

Batwheels "Up In The Air"

Spoiler

The show dealt with Bam feeling worried about mistakes and his leadership skills in the Pilot, and them going back to that already say that as far as preschool shows go, this one isn't going to be reinventing the wheel (so to speak).

I liked the Hamilton reference. That musical is BIG if it's spoofed on preschool cartoons.

I also think it's funny that Batman believes walking the plank is a cliche.

I feel like the series is already starting to get into a rut. And it's episode 4. 2 1/2 stars.

Batwheels "Bibi's Do-Over"

Spoiler

Toyman, huh?

It sucked. And I'll tell you why. The interesting thing about the Groundhog Day scenario is it's out of the hero's control. The fact that Bibi can start and stop it whenever she wants robs not only any urgency from the premise, but it also makes it super boring. 1 star.

Batwheels "Sidekicked To The Curb"

Spoiler

I thought most of the episode was boring but I dug the ending where Batman told the Joker he was funny, because it was said in a very ironic way. I thought that was interesting even if the rest of the episode wasn't. It was only okay. 2 1/2 stars.

Batwheels "Keep Calm And Roll On"

I don't much like this version of Harley Quinn. 2 stars.

Batwheels "Bam's Upgrade"

Spoiler

Is Batman actually stupid? Because "I don't remember installing these upgrades," is something a stupid person would say.

I DID like Batman grousing that Superman needs to clean up his own Metropolis headaches upon seeing Toyman.

I think it's kind of neat that the waves of waters and the lights in the characters' eyes look 2-D hand-drawn animated, while the rest of the show is CGI. It's a very eye-popping look.

So-so episode. 2 1/2 stars.

Batwheels "Spooky Batcave"

Spoiler
This reminds me exactly of something the Pixar Cars franchise would do. That is not a compliment on my end. 1 star.

ThunderCats Ultimates! Wish List: Safari Joe, Turmagar, Tuska Warrior, Topspinner, Ram-Bam, Cruncher, Red-Eye, Tug-Mug, Driller, Ro-Bear Belle, Ro-Bear Bert, Nayda, Mumm-Rana, Dr. Dometone, Stinger, Captain Bragg & Crowman, Astral Moat Monster, Spidera, Snowmeow, Wolfrat.

Some catch-up for some Meet The Batwheels Shorts.

Meet The Batwheels "Calling All Batwheels"

Spoiler

It's not exactly a good song, but it's a total earworm, which I have mixed feelings about. I wouldn't if it were a good song. **1/2.

Meet The Batwheels "Bam!"

Spoiler

I liked the song. ***1/2.

Meet The Batwheels "Buff Tuff"

Spoiler

I really disliked the obnoxious song here. It's not just country. It's BAD country. **.

Meet The Batwheels "Faster"

Spoiler

The song reminded me a little bit of the cartoon theme song to Sonic X. .

Meet The Batwheels "Fly"

Spoiler

The pop music in these videos is pretty generic. .

Meet The Batwheels "Robin's Ride"

Spoiler

Sort of cute but I think the song is kind of bland. .

Meet The Batwheels "Bam's Bubble Trouble"

Spoiler
Don't get me wrong, Ethan Hawke is a great Batman. I just wonder what the point is of casting such a big name in a preschool show. 1/2.

ThunderCats Ultimates! Wish List: Safari Joe, Turmagar, Tuska Warrior, Topspinner, Ram-Bam, Cruncher, Red-Eye, Tug-Mug, Driller, Ro-Bear Belle, Ro-Bear Bert, Nayda, Mumm-Rana, Dr. Dometone, Stinger, Captain Bragg & Crowman, Astral Moat Monster, Spidera, Snowmeow, Wolfrat.

Batwheels "Scaredy-Bat"

Spoiler

It was all right but the toddler moral grated a little. I mean, yeah, this is a toddler show, but still. 3 stars.

Batwheels "Riddle Me This"

Spoiler

Not impressed at all.

The "Wrong" riddle was ridiculously easy, so even on the one in a million chance Quiz had never heard it (unlikely to say the least) he should have still solved it. He claims it's no fair and a cheat. And that's not true. It's an easy riddle, but it's a fair one, and self-evident, which is what all riddles should be.

If I had to pick any aspect of The Arrowverse making its way out and being popularized in the larger DC Multiverse, the appearances of Big Belly Burger would not have been my first choice.

Weak episode. Roland Deschain from The Dark Tower, an expert in riddles, would not think it was any great shakes. 2 stars.

ThunderCats Ultimates! Wish List: Safari Joe, Turmagar, Tuska Warrior, Topspinner, Ram-Bam, Cruncher, Red-Eye, Tug-Mug, Driller, Ro-Bear Belle, Ro-Bear Bert, Nayda, Mumm-Rana, Dr. Dometone, Stinger, Captain Bragg & Crowman, Astral Moat Monster, Spidera, Snowmeow, Wolfrat.

Batwheels "Zoomsday"

Spoiler

Snowy is back to being a villain, which is disappointing, but it seems at points that he's a reluctant one. However that is not entirely consistent, so only partial credit. 3 stars.

Batwheels "Rev And Let Rev"

Spoiler

The toddler moral grated. I mean, it IS a show for toddlers, but still.

I am willing to bet I have written that exact review above hundreds of times before, maybe even for this show. But it feels like I've seen that specific episode hundreds of times before too. I'll save my originality in my reviews for actual new material. That's fair, right? 1 star.

ThunderCats Ultimates! Wish List: Safari Joe, Turmagar, Tuska Warrior, Topspinner, Ram-Bam, Cruncher, Red-Eye, Tug-Mug, Driller, Ro-Bear Belle, Ro-Bear Bert, Nayda, Mumm-Rana, Dr. Dometone, Stinger, Captain Bragg & Crowman, Astral Moat Monster, Spidera, Snowmeow, Wolfrat.

Batwheels "Batcomputer For A Day"

Spoiler

I considered it equal parts boring and inoffensive. When it comes to toddler shows, that boils down to a positive reception from me. .

Batwheels "Grass Is Greener"
Spoiler

I still love the bright and colorful animation in Gotham City. Poison Ivy's glowing design and plants in particular are eye-popping. 1/2.

ThunderCats Ultimates! Wish List: Safari Joe, Turmagar, Tuska Warrior, Topspinner, Ram-Bam, Cruncher, Red-Eye, Tug-Mug, Driller, Ro-Bear Belle, Ro-Bear Bert, Nayda, Mumm-Rana, Dr. Dometone, Stinger, Captain Bragg & Crowman, Astral Moat Monster, Spidera, Snowmeow, Wolfrat.

Batwheels "Holidays On Ice"

Spoiler

That was 22 minutes? That actually flew by. That's a compliment, by the way. Big time.

And I don't love the show. I can't pretend I do. But upon seeing the cute cartoons cars and trucks driving around the Batcave singing Christmas Carols my response was "DC needs more continuities like this, and fewer like Titans, Doom Patrol, and Peacemaker." If this sort of nice DC material were more common I could dismiss the show for being dumb. But it being nice is its biggest selling point. Why aren't more DC projects nice? The DCAU was nice. Batman: The Brave And The Bold was nice. Justice League Action was nice. Whenever DC does a nice project people like it. Why has this become such an ordeal?

I like the Christmas-themed main title. But as far as Carols go, the Jingle Bells Batman Smells one shouldn't be sung by heroes, especially if one of them IS the Batmobile. In fact I'd argue Bam, Batman, and Robin are the three beings in existence who should NEVER sing the carol.

Batman being Ike Cicle was a nice surprise. As in preschool shows never surprise me, so this doing so counted as nice. I mentioned the show was nice, right?

That will never be confused for high art. But for 22 minutes it was pretty damn fast. 1 removed link

Meet The Batwheels "Interview With A Crime Fighter"

Spoiler

It's an interesting facet to make this Batman media-shy. It's not just that he hates promoting himself, he seems genuinely a bit nervous and camera-shy. Wonder how the Bruce Wayne half of him ever gets by. It's also kind of cute and endearing. *.

Meet The Batwheels "The Best Present In The World"

Spoiler

Hummable song. Cute. ****.

ThunderCats Ultimates! Wish List: Safari Joe, Turmagar, Tuska Warrior, Topspinner, Ram-Bam, Cruncher, Red-Eye, Tug-Mug, Driller, Ro-Bear Belle, Ro-Bear Bert, Nayda, Mumm-Rana, Dr. Dometone, Stinger, Captain Bragg & Crowman, Astral Moat Monster, Spidera, Snowmeow, Wolfrat.

Meet The Batwheels "The Knight Shift"

Spoiler

Cute. (Ish). 3 1/2 stars.

Meet The Batwheels "Silly Stowaway"

Spoiler

They aren't fooling me. I actually know bats aren't really cute. They're totally gross.

I'll keep the Duckie car though. 3 stars.

Batwheels "Bam's Clawful Mistake"

Spoiler

The toddler morals grate, but the truth is Kitty is pretty much just the cutest. 4 stars.

Batwheels "Harley Did It"

Spoiler

You can't Bugs Bunny Batman. However, when Harley actually has to explain the Bugs Bunny gag to toddlers in the audience who have never seen an old Bugs Bunny cartoon, she lets all of the humor out of it. A famous comic once said "If you have to explain a joke, there IS no joke!" Who was that anyways?

The song was pretty great this week. The original music on this show is above average from most cartoons made for TV.

For the toddlers watching this, the clues pointing to the Penguin make the mystery solvable. As a Batman fan, they make the mystery tedious instead.

Also how does one lose a corner piece when you are missing only one when the jigsaw puzzle is almost finished? Puzzle solvers always build from the corners FIRST.

The cartoon was all right though. 3 1/2 stars.

Batwheels "Buff In A China Shop"

Spoiler

That was straight up terrible on every level. The show is telling clumsy kids in the audience that the way to become more coordinated is to believe in yourself. This is what is known as a lie. Adults LOVE telling kids those. A responsible preschool show would NEVER preach that specific moral.

Also the Riddler EXPLAINING his Batpuns really makes me think less of the show.

The sand riddle was awful. To the show's credit, Batman thinks it's too easy. To the show's demerit the Riddler is actually surprised he solved it.

Riddler's motivation to destroy the sand castles makes no sense. If he destroyed them (and he didn't try to hide his identity in the episode when he attempted to), not only would he have been disqualified, the contest would have been postponed at best, canceled at worst. But frankly, what is Batman doing there at all? What Riddler is doing isn't an actual crime.

Sometimes I enjoy this dumb show in spite of myself. This was not one of those times. The flaws were simply too great to overlook. Sometimes I can shut my brain off for this show. But the problem with the episode is it thinks I don't actually have one. That's not okay. 0 stars.

Batwheels "A Tale Of Two Bibis"

Spoiler

Cute and not overly insulting to my intelligence which is all I ask for.

Although to be honest, the fake Bibi learning the location of the Batcave seems like a serious oversight on the writer's end. It's a preschool show, so they couldn't exactly kill her off either.

Still, I like that Fake Bibi mentions that chassis are made of metal and cannot stretch. This is not an observation another preschool show would normally make, which is another reason I liked it.

Cute and inoffensive. My jam. 3 stars.

Batwheels "Batty Race"

Spoiler

"Cheater never win" is a nice lesson to drill into toddlers, but it's simply put, not remotely true. Cheaters win FAR more often than good guys do.

The thing I liked is that Buff doesn't take Snowy's betrayal personally. He knows he knows better, but believes he's just misguided. His "Bye, Snowy!" shows he knows they are still friends. I don't much like Snowy later happily boasting to his friends that he "iced" him, but if the show handled that idea perfectly, it would be a miracle. It's impressive Buff and Snowy's friendship usually works as well as it does.

All right, but outside of the Buff and Snowy stuff, nothing special either. 2 1/2 stars.

ThunderCats Ultimates! Wish List: Safari Joe, Turmagar, Tuska Warrior, Topspinner, Ram-Bam, Cruncher, Red-Eye, Tug-Mug, Driller, Ro-Bear Belle, Ro-Bear Bert, Nayda, Mumm-Rana, Dr. Dometone, Stinger, Captain Bragg & Crowman, Astral Moat Monster, Spidera, Snowmeow, Wolfrat.

Batwheels "When You're A Jet"

Spoiler

Green Arrow, huh? I didn't know other DC heroes would be allowed to guest star. This show just became slightly more interesting.

But while the animation is colorful, and the montage song doesn't suck, I feel like the writing and dialogue are subpar. And unfortunately, I think that many preschool shows believe writing NEEDS to be for toddlers to follow along. That's not actually true and Bluey spends every second of every day proving this mindset totally wrong. I wish more preschool shows were like Bluey. **.

Batwheels "Ride Along"

Spoiler

Kitty is just the cutest.

The Gray Ghost! The legacies of both Batman: The Animated Series and Adam West live on.

Penguin is a spoiler troll? He's an even bigger monster than I thought.

Adorable. ***.

Batwheels "Wheels Just Want To Have Fun"

Spoiler

Underwhelming. Before you counter with "Well, Matt it's a preschool show, of course it is," both Bluey and Elena Of Avalor say that does NOT need to be a given. It's a choice.

Now I'll give the show this: It's not awful like Spidey And His Amazing Friends and Rescue Bots Academy. But underwhelming isn't a great thing to be either. **.
