Blade II

I liked the first movie. But I liked this one even better. The best thing about the first movie is the sunglasses and they topped it here! Great stuff.

I love that Blade knew Scud was dirty from the set-go. It also might explain why Whistler didn't come to his rescue when the Reapers attacked the van. Perhaps Blade told Whistler of his suspicions and Whistler just left him to them rather than keep up the charade. To be honest, I think this specific thing needed to be addressed in the actual film, and if it was in a deleted scene, I wouldn't be shocked. The reason it makes me unhappy is that Whistler doing that without that justification in hindsight makes his behavior in the movie super shady. I figured out the reason for it on my own, but for clarity's sake the movie needed to do that.

The credits insist no real Reapers were hurt during the filming of the movie. So does that mean those vampire deaths were legit?

I like the new CGI vampire deaths. A lot less bloody, a lot more stylized, and lots more fun to watch. I cheered when Blade kills them. In the first movie I half-cringed.

Speaking of cringing, those Reapers were horrific. Good lord, I'm gonna have nightmares.

I was surprised to learned the vampire who looked familiar to me was played by Red Dwarf's Danny John Jules. It's so weird to see the Cat in another project.

The biggest bummer to me is probably for the best, although it doesn't feel like it. If Nyssa had actually played for time instead of serving herself up, Blade would have been able to save her. He was literally seconds away from her. The reason this is probably for the best is that despite the fact that Blade seems to have caught feelings for her, she IS a vampire, and Blade IS supposed to kill her. Truly, perhaps it's better if she dies in the sunlight in his arms instead of at the end of his stake.

That was most excellent. ****1/2.
