My thoughts:

I am ambivalent about whether this will make the show better or more popular with kids, but I think for all the bluster about the show being experimental and adjusting to the times, it feels to me this new format was essentially a giant middle finger to David Zaslav. Why else debut it the very season the rights are up for renewal? That upcoming season is now VERY valuable and it being up for grabs will start a bidding war for the property. They are furious how Zaslav treated both their library and The Not Too Late Show With Elmo and the format change is the shot across the bow of Max letting them know the days of the studio being mistreated or taken for granted are over.

I'm delighted Sesame Workshop is doing this, and I simply wish all of the other content creators Zaslav screwed over for pennies on the dollar had the purse, juice, and clout to do this kind of thing. I bet Olan Rogers is looking at this with a kind of grin of envy and awe. Don't mess with Elmo. He'll cut you.

I wish them SO much success with this. I wanna see Zaslav squirm.

I think you are reading way more into this announcement than I do.

I do that. And that's why people love and hate me in equal measure.

Timing is suspicious though.

I feel like this Wilson Stallings doesn't seem to know much about the history of Sesame Street when I read this...

As for the new animated series, Tales From 123, Wilson Stallings says that the series “for the very first time will give viewers an opportunity to go inside 123 Sesame Street, which is probably the most famous apartment building in the world.

I realize that this is about the new animated segments but the very first episode of Sesame Street went inside Gordon and Susan's apartment and Ernie and Bert live on the lower level of the brownstone and their apartment appears in nearly every episode (or at least it did in the "vintage" days of the show).

My friend told me to stop quoting the Monkees. I thought she was joking. But then I saw her face.

Good catch, Jim. We've been inside the building many times. I think also during the hurricane arc.

Elmo lives there too. So that's also where The Not Too Late Show With Elmo takes place.

Someone on another forum pointed out something disturbing. This format almost certainly heralds the end of the film / TV show parodies.

Trying to imagine Sesame Street without the spoofs. Nope. Can't do it.
